Three juniors and an adult came away with victories in exciting JBT NM-TX Conference Doubles action, held at Tenpins and More.
The Colorado team of Jess Gagliardi and Nathan Shock opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 193-191 squeaker over the team of Paul Carper and JBT alumni Mikey Moyer. Billy Grant and Andy Zumwalt then beat Jess and Nathan 231-182, and followed with a 217-191 win over brothers Jeremy and Justin Medina, to reach the title match.
Top seeds Geoffrey Young and Trevor MacPhee grabbbed the top seed thanks to great bowling by both partners, led by Geoffrey's tournament-high 277 game and 233 average. However, Grant and Zumwalt had history on their side, having won this event way back in 2001. This time, though, it was all Geoffrey and Trevor, as they cruised to a 235-182 win and the title, which was Geoffrey's third and Trevor's first.
A band of brothers squared off in round one of the handicap finals, as Jacob and Brandon Gill got past Cody and Austin Mansfield 214-132. In a low-scoring second round, Armando Ortega and Nicholas Aragon got by the Gill brothers 156-148. William and Gary Yoder then defeated Ortega and Aragon 187-160 to reach the title match.
Top seeds Jessica Palma and Josh Arceo had been at or near the top of the leaderboard all day, but had their hands full with the Yoders, with William having been so close to his first title in the past, and tasting another chance here. A really exciting battle came down to the tenth frame, where Jessica and Josh eeked out a 199-193 win, for Jessica's second and Josh's third JBT title.
