SOUTH PLAINS LANES

champs Brian Collier & Staci Gleason

Brian Collier and Staci Gleason took two different routes to their first JBT titles in exciting Texas-New Mexico Conference action at Lubbock’s South Plains Lanes.

The scratch division stepladder finals opened with Justin Medina squeaking by Stephen Hardy 204-201 when Hardy failed to double in the tenth frame.  It was the same situation in round two, and the same result, as Medina squeezed by Nathan Shock 220-210.   Justin got hot in the semifinals though, defeating TJ Gaudette 247-191 to reach the title match.

Collier, who rolled a 300 in JBT competition a month earlier, was the top seed for the first time in his JBT career, and struggled on the left lane through the first half of the title match.  However, a great move mid-game combined with a disastrous tenth frame open from Medina gave him the edge he needed for a 218-201 win and his first career JBT victory.

Staci Gleason squeezed into the #5 seed for the finals, and then got red-hot, beginning with a 241-222 win over Seth Jaramillo in round one.   Gleason then got by Brooklyn Flatt 237-230, and beat another good effort from her semifinal opponent, winning 245-220 over Tricia Barress, to reach the finals.

Top seed Joseph Lunch was enjoying his best JBT event ever, but Gleason kept the pressure on in the title match, winning 242-213 for her first career JBT title.

Big thanks to Mr. Jim McClain and the whole crew at South Plains for always being wonderful hosts for our Tour.  Over $1,300 in scholarships were awarded- want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it’s as simple as that!
