SUN LANES

champs Kyle King and Ryan Doan

If anyone is opposed to renaming the NM-TX Conference the Kyle King Conference, they haven't followed our Tour this season.  Kyle made JBT history, while Ryan Doan made some personal history, with wins at Sun Lanes in exciting JBT action.

Travis Shepan enjoyed the home cooking in round one of the handicap stepladder finals, with a 273-182 win over Janeyl Carper.  Roswell's Krista Casaus then stopped Shepan, 267-229.  Doan then stepped in and defeated Casaus 212-185, to reach the title match.

Top seed Amanda Johnson, a long-time JBT veteran, grabbed the top seed to ensure her first title match appearance in quite a while.  Unfortunately for her, though, she suffered through four consecutive opens in the middle of the game, and Doan, using a no-thumb delivery, was able to capitalize for a 208-197 win, and his first career JBT title.

To start the scratch stepladder, Nathan Shock and William Entsminger engaged in a very entertaining match, with Shock doubling for the 225-222 win.  Top lefthander Mike Cross then ousted Shock 256-212.  Cross was good again in the semifinals, beating Billy Grant 222-191 to reach the final match.

Good buddies off the lanes, Cross was absolutely determined to stop Kyle's historic run through the Tour.  Kyle had cruised to the top seed today, and began with the front five strikes to grab the early lead.  Mike didn't back down though, fighting back with a late four-bagger to get within a mark.  In the 11th, though, Cross slammed- and I mean slammed- a 9-pin.  King, now only needing a mark to win, shredded the rack for a 265-235 win.  This is Kyle's 12th career title, and is the 5th consecutive NM-TX event that he's won- nobody else in our storied history has accomplished 5 straight wins in one conference- congrats, Kyle!!

Thanks to everyone at Sun for hosting our Tour again.  Over $1,400 in scholarships was awarded- want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
