VISTA REC. CENTER

champs Mark French and Bryan Florendo; PowerBowl winner Dan Hansen

Mark French and Bryan Florendo walked away with titles as the JBT visited Vista Recreation enter for some exciting Southern California Conference action, but it was Dan Hansen who walked away with the biggest prize of the season so far, capturing over $2,000 in our PowerBowl jackpot!

Jeff Spiesman opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 184-173 win over Preston Fukumizu when Preston unfortunately opened in the tenth.  Kyle King, who’s been virtually unstoppable all season, then best Spiesman 217-191, and followed with a 214-199 win over Cameron Smith to reach yet another title match.

Top qualifier Mark French battled with King all day in qualifying, eventually nabbing the top seed.   In this match, the veteran French was able to get dialed in on the final pair, whereas King could never get comfortable, especially on the right lane.  The end result was a 217-181 win for Mark, good for the second title of his JBT career.

Eddie Sayles, a winner already this season, opened the handicap stepladder with a 217-190 decision over Eric Demo in round one.  Sayles then only managed a 158 in game two, but amazingly it was enough, as he got by Jon Pletcher’s 147.  Dan Hansen then beat Sayles 211-202 to advance to the title match.

Top qualifier Bryan Florendo had bowled brilliantly all day long, but the story of the day was Hansen and his magical win in PowerBowl, a progressive jackpot contested after game 5 at regular season JBT events.  Dan called a strike on shot #1 and got it, earning a $10 scholarship.  He then predicted 7 on shot #2 and got that as well, bumping his win to $50.  On shot #3, he called 5 (David Fritz changed his mind from 4), and left the 1-2-3-5-10, and the crowd erupted into a frenzy when they realized he just won a $2,150 scholarship for becoming the second PowerBowl jackpot winner, congratulations Dan!!!

Hansen was somehow able to refocus from that thrill to reach the title match, and he engaged in a great match against Florendo.  7-pins kept Hansen from running away with the win, and Florendo, who switched to his plastic ball because of thumb problems, made a great move on the lanes to run a four-bagger from the 7th that proved to be the difference, as he won 224-211 for his first career JBT title.

Theo Douthit rolled the event’s only 300 game, a perfecto during qualifying, making at least one 300 game being thrown every time we’ve visited this center!

Thanks to everyone at Vista for a great job hosting our Tour.  Vista has a huge new game room and some very impressive new TV monitors that you should definitely check out!  And if you want to check them out, visit Debi Holland at Convoy Big Screen, who not only supplied the TVs, but donated one to our event’s raffle—we love ya, Debi!!!  Over $3,900 was awarded at the event- a huge total for sure!  Want in on the fun, come on down to the next JBT event, it’s as simple as that!
