DEL ROSA LANES

champs Matt Jones and Shelby Scheffler (right); Women's Series champ
Alyse McGinnes
Matt Jones regrouped from a devastating
Saturday, while Shelby Scheffler made her debut weekend a victorious one, in
exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at Del Rosa Lanes.
Cameron Smith made history in the scratch
division stepladder finals by blasting a perfect 300 game- on the demanding PBA
scorpion condition no less- to win round one 300-178 over Greg Garbera.
This was only the 3rd 300 in the stepladder finals in JBT history. Devin
Bidwell almost turned the tables on Smith in round two, starting with the front
7 en route to a 256-178 win over Smith. Bidwell stayed hot in the
semifinals, defeating Jeremy Glover 258-174 to reach the title match.
Top seed Matt Jones watched his beloved
Florida Gators blow an extra point to lose the day before, and evidently that
motivated him, as he dominated the field en route to the top seed. He led
comfortably most of the title match before a big tenth frame split allowed
Bidwell a chance to strike out to tie. Devin could not get the hits, and
Jones claimed his 4th career title with the 179-163 win.
Erika Garcia opened the handicap division of
the stepladder finals with a 224-214 win over Wesley Low. Erika then beat
fellow San Diegan Andre Hernandez 241-208, before squeaking past Rane Lacona
222-220 to reach the title match.
Top seed Scheffler had been at or near the
leader board most of the event, and was able to claim her first career JBT title
with the 218-178 win over Garcia.
Scheffler then had to regroup from the thrill
of victory to take on Alyse McGinnes for the Women's Series title, and in that
match the veteran McGinnes coasted to a 202-163 win and the title, earning her a
chance at a bonus prize list at the 2009 JBT Girls Invitational.
Over $1,700 was awarded to the 76 player
field. Want in on the fun? Come on out to the next JBT event, it's
as simple as that!
