AZ DOUBLES CLASSIC

champs Amanda Falk, Bryanna Caldwell, Gregg Kern, and Delano Coveris flank Valentino Bowling's Kevin Cummings

A packed field saw four champions emerge in the JBT's AZ Doubles Classic, hosted by AMF Christown and sponsored by Valentino Bowling.

Randy Cote and recent JBT grad Michael Cross opened up the scratch division of the Baker-style stepladder finals with a 230-205 win over Matt Jones and Cameron Smith.    Matt Herbert, a winner in last week's So Cal doubles, teamed with Tucson adult star Al Davis for a 196-179 win over Cote and Cross.  The JBT superstar team of Kyle King and BJ Baker then beat Matt and Al 214-203 to advance to the title match.

Top seeds Amanda Falk and Bryanna Caldwell are two of the best female bowlers in the history of our Tour, and it was no surprise that of all the talent in the scratch division, that they grabbed the lead after game 5 and never let it go.  As veterans of college bowling, they are extremely familiar with the Baker format, and showed that experience by defeating the statistically imposing team of King and Baker 204-186 for the title.  The win was the 2nd title of Amanda's JBT career and Bryanna's female-leading 8th, and marked the 4th and 5th time already this season that a female has won a JBT scratch title- amazing!

Savannah Carr and Cody Taylor opened up the handicap division finals with a 175-170 squeaker over Joe Lewandowski and  Maura Swaim.  Chris Rodriguez and Kyle Smith then beat Cody and Savannah 213-135, and followed with a 156-139 win over Alex Pellegrino and Dylan Taylor to reach the title match.

Although Delano Coveris bowled terrifically, he really helped his cause by picking Gregg Kern as his partner, as the recent Best in the West champ continued his hot bowling and they teamed up to easily grab the top seed.  In a low-scoring title match, Gregg and Delano had enough left in the tank for a 189-177 win over Chris and Kyle, good for Delano's first career JBT title, and Gregg's second consecutive win.

Valentino Bowling showcased their terrific line of bowling ball products at the event.  Check them out at www.valentinobowling.com.  We thank Kevin Cummings and Valentino for their sponsorship!

This event continues to be one of the biggest and best of our season, thanks to the many adults and JBT alumni who partner up with our juniors, and their participation is greatly appreciated.  Over $4,700 in scholarships were awarded to the large field, ably hosted by Pat Cook and her fine staff at Christown.  Want in on all this fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
