BRC PREMIER LANES
champ Charlie Hair & runner-up Foster Phandanouvong Charlie Hair put on an impressive performance all day long to capture his 2nd JBT title in exciting So Cal Conference action at BRC Premier Lanes. The large field enjoyed the debut of our 'scratchwracker' format, combing our popular scratchplay qualifying format and nervewracker finals format. Jimmy Hefley dominated the qualifying round, starting with a 289 game en route to the top seed, but was a victim of both the nervewracker and the top-seed jinx, as #16 Foster Phandanouvong won the rolloff 10-9 to oust Hefley. #2 Cameron Smith fared better, sweeping his match, but #3 Scott Boyle and #4 Travis Hewitt, visiting from Northern California, were also round one upset victims. In the round of eight, Phandanouvong beat #9 Andre Hernandez, the highest finisher who usually competes in the handicap division, 2-0; Hair beat #14 Kyle King in an odd nervewracker 9-5; Smith swept #5 Tim Ursillo 2-0, and #13 James Hawkins snuck by #11 Matt Herbert 9-8 in the second nervewracker rolloff. In semifinal matches, Phandanouvong swept Hawkins 2-0, and Hair swept Smith 2-0, setting up the title match. Bowling on the 2009 USBC Nationals pattern, Hair seemed to be gaining in confidence in each match, and his 225-201 and 247-193 sweep of Foster earned him the tournament championship. Thanks to the whole crew at Premier for a great job hosting our Tour for the first time. Over $1,300 in scholarships were awarded to the all-scratch field. Want in on the fun? Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
