SANTA CRUZ LANES

champs Greg Garbera and Brooks Gould

Greg Garbera and Brooks Gould captured JBT titles in exciting Arizona Conference action at Santa Cruz Lanes.

150 games don't win matches in our scratch division stepladder finals very often, but Shawn Peters' 154 was good enough to beat Randy Cote by three pins in round one.  Garbera then put a stop to that, blasting a 257 to eliminate Peters 257-159.   He continued the strong look in the semifinals with a 258-213 win over Cameron Smith to reach the title match.

Top seed Miguel Lopez blasted 708 in the semifinals to grab the top seed away from Greg, but had trouble fine tuning his carry in the title game.  Greg cooled off somewhat, but still had the hits when he needed them, and his 211-189 win was good for the 4th title of his JBT career.

Alex Pellegrino opened up the 8-bowler handicap stepladder finals with a 234 game that beat Cassie Collins (185) and Marcus Stanley (196).  Lindsey Ailport's 250 in round two then eliminated Pellegrino (208) and Daniel Cotten (212).  It was Gould's turn for the big number next, as his 273 easily knocked out Ailport (173) and Blake Kalaf, who always seems to do well in Tucson events, setting up the title match.

Top seed JD Sweet was looking for his first title, and had a vocal crowd cheering him on, but had issues maintaining the pocket on the quickly drying-out wood surface at Santa Cruz.  Gould has been bowling very well since a mid-season return from an injury, and his mid-game strike string helped lock up a 213-175 win and his first career JBT title.

Thanks to the whole crew at Santa Cruz for always making our Tour feel very welcome every time we visit.  Thanks in part to Cameron Smith cashing in for $300 in our PowerBowl scholarship jackpot (the second PowerBowl win in February), and both winners earning an extra $100 for throwing Ebonite equipment for their wins, a big $2,570 was awarded to the field.  Want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
