STRIKE ZONE at SUNSET STATION

champs Kyle King & Shane Courtney

Kyle King became the 3rd member of the JBT's 30-title club, while Shane Courtney tasted victory for the first time, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Strike Zone.

Bowlers enjoyed our do-or-die 'survivor format', where the lowest score on each pair is eliminated round by round until only one remains.  Natalie Jimenez led scratch division qualifying, but fell in her first survivor round.  Meanwhile, Kyle King, who has struggled at times in this format, snuck into the cut and just kept surviving round by round.  In the end, it was down to him and good friend Matt Herbert.  Kyle beat Matt 226-214 for the win, the 30th of his career.  He joins Steven Black and BJ Baker as the only two bowlers to acheive this incredible feat- and Kyle has done it at 4 years younger!

Handicap division bowlers seemed to conquer Kegel's 'beaten path' pattern fairly well, and everyone from high to low averages, lefty righty boy and girl, all had good results.  But, part of survivor is elimination, and one by one they fell.  Top seed Katelyn Scott unfortunately succumbed early, while defending champ Randi Speiler made an admirable defense in 4th.  Last standing were Austin Signoretti, a top-5 finisher the day before, and newcomer Shane Courtney.  In that match, Shane defeated Austin for his first JBT title in his rookie appearance.

Thanks as always to Strike Zone, home of the 2009 Touring Players Championship, for hosting our last regular season 08-09 Mojave Conference stop.  Bowlers who finished in the top 5 of a Mojave event, or finished in the top 32 of the point standings, now advance to the Mojave Invitational, featuring a $1,000 scholarship for first place per division.  Don't miss it!
