ANTELOPE LANES
champs
Steven Black & Trevor Jensen A 107 bowler field packed
Antelope Lanes all day long, and after it was all over, the same Black, but a
new Jensen, emerged victorious.
The usual Jensen, JBT star Christian, opened the day with a 788
series including a 296 game, but faded in the semifinals, finishing 8th.
The scratch division finals began with Hasan Kural sparing in the tenth frame
for a 212-208 victory over Theo Douthit, making yet another top-5 in a very
consistent year. In round two, a solid-10 in the tenth plagued Kural, and
Kevin Saunders benefitted. marking in the tenth for a 198-193
victory In the semifinals, Philip Schwartz came up with a big
225-211 win to advance to the finals.
The good news for Philip was that this marked his second
straight title match. The bad news was that he had to face a red-hot
Steven Black for the second straight time as well. A 4-9 in the sixth
frame for Schwartz turned the momentum in Steven's favor, and Black capitalized
with booming strikes in the late frames. The result was a 236-180 win,
good for his 34th title in his amazing JBT SW career.
In the handicap division, Alex Powell got the spare in the tenth
he needed for a 231 game, good enough to beat Brian Weyrauch's 225 and Kevin
Schoenfeld's 156. Weyrauch was only in the finals because Max Van Kirk,
who was having a great day, was unfortunately unable to continue, so we all send
him our best wishes.
In round two, a very tense match saw Trevor Jensen rolling a 220,
which was just enough to edge Powell's 218 and Rane Lacona's fine 212
effort. Jensen, the lowest average bowler to make the finals (89), then
came up big with a 240 game, defeating Kyle King (196) and Amy Dorsey (194) to
advance to the championship game.
Top qualifier Taylor Brenann was looking to add a hometown title to
his already impressive JBT SW resume, and looked good with an opening
double. However, jensen hung in there, and had just enough left in the
tanks for a 203-200 victory over Taylor, good for the first JBT SW title of his
career.
$2,439 in scholarships was awarded to the field, and our thanks goes
out to Storm and Antelope Lanes for hosting another exciting JBT SW tournament
in Prescott Valley!
