Steven Black returned to the site of last season's 897 trio and added a 33rd title to his JBT SW collection, while newcomer Kyle Frederick added a second already, in JBT SW action at Country Club Bowl.

The scratch division finals opened with Greg Garbera, making his third straight finals appearance, defeating Matt Herbert by a 203-161 count as Herbert struggled on the right lane.  In round two, Philip Schwartz came on to defeat Garbera 200-165.  Schwartz then made a few good moves on the lanes and locked in for a 273-161 win over Theo Douthit, to advance to the title match against Black, in a rematch of the 2001 AZ Invitational final. 

Top qualifier Black is obviously very confident at Country Club, and showed it by easily leading the field in qualifying, then opening with the front four in the title match.  Schwartz' line appeared to go away as fast as it showed up in the semifinals, and the result was a lopsided 267-167 victory for Steven's 33rd career JBT SW victory, and another $345 in scholarships.

In the handicap division, 6 year-old Casey Candiotti kept up with the big boys all day, qualifying #6 for the finals.  However, the Bonneville brothers were able to keep up with Casey in match one, as Tim's 207 was enough to beat brother Kylee's 197, and Candiotti's 184.  In round two, Cameron Smith fired a big 230 to advance over Chris Spinner's 180 game and Bonneville's 168 effort.  The semifinals featured a big 261 from Kyle King, who defeated Jeff Millmier's fine 225 and Smith's 178, to advance to his first title in 2005.

Top qualifier Kyle Frederick captured his first title in the Pro-Am last month, and found himself leading after game 8 all by himself this time.  he and King squared off in a see-saw battle that turned when King, with a strike working in the 8th, left- and then missed- a solid-10, proving to be the difference in the game.  The 208-186 final score was good for the 2nd title of Frederick's young career, and a $250 scholarship payday.

111 bowlers competed in the event, sponsored by Shiflet Family Chiropractic in Queen Creek.  A whopping $2,345 was awarded to the field, 33 of whom received scholarships.
