Stephen Gaucin climbed the ladder for another JBT SW title, while Ashley Burns halted the climb of another to win her first, in JBT SW action at Fiesta Lanes.

The scratch division finals opened with Gaucin defeating CJ Brown 225-202.  CJ had electrified the crowd in the fifth game by blasting a 300 game, his first in JBT SW competition, and the sixth overall this season.

Gaucin then got by Tucsonan Chris Davenport 185-161, and resident videographer Philip Schwartz, 212-191, to reach the title match.

Top qualifier Justin DeDera had led most of the day in fairly dominant fashion, but Gaucin is always tough in the stepladder.  Some great clutch strikes in the late frames turned a small deficit into a runaway win for Stephen, and he captured his third JBT SW title with the 235-217 victory.

In the handicap division, Thomas Sanchez put on quite a show in his first finals appearance.  In round one, he rolled a 239 to defeat Dakota Samaniego (207) and Mason Holman (199).  Samaniego and Holman combined to be 15 years old and average 98 (50 and 48 respectively), so any age and any average once again prove to do very well with us!

In round two Sanchez came up with a big 244 to defeat fine efforts by John Freeman (221) and Julian Tapia (197).  In the semis, Chris Kopp (227) and Stephanie Gonzales (233) both came up big, But Sanchez was up to the challenge, firing a 259 to advance to the title match.

Top qualifier Ashley Burns turned the tables on Sanchez in the title match, however.  Her early string of strikes put too much pressure on Sanchez, who had some unfortunate opens to give Burns an insurmountable lead.  In the end, Ashley defeated Thomas 282-198, plenty good enough for her first career JBT SW title.
