AMF FRONTIER LANES

champs David Sevier and Lindsay Salhoff

David Sevier continued a red-hot summer with a third consecutive title, while Lindsay Salhoff won for the first time in almost two years in JBT SW action at AMF Frontier.

Emily Ornelas, who secured her spot in the upcoming AZ Invitational with this stepladder appearance, opened the finals with a 198-158 victory over Theo Douthit, who is trying to sneak back up on the scratch points lead.

Sevier then got into a battle with Ornelas in match 2.  Sevier's double in the tenth forced a 19-fill from Ornelas in her tenth, but after a spare, an unfortunate 7-count gave David the 211-209 win.  The semifinal produced equally dramatic results.  Birthday boy Jason Arnold, trying desperately to add another title to his career in his last few events, fell victim to a very unlucky 5-7 in his ninth frame, proving to be the difference in another 2-pin win for David, this time by a 204-202 score.

Top qualifier Chris Weyrauch, fresh off a doubles win in Laughlin last week, was looking for his first singles title since August 2003, but was unable to stop the momentum Sevier was building.  An early six-bagger by David locked up a 247-178 win, good for the ninth title of his JBT SW career, and his third in a row personally, a feat only accomplished by five other bowlers.

In the handicap division, Dan Eagy led off the stepladder finals with a 198 game that was enough to defeat Tim Bonneville (180) and Christina Waldron (178).  In round two, Salhoff rolled a 224 that turned out to be the only 200+ game in the whole finals, and she beat Kevin Schoenfeld (168) and Eagy (170) to advance.  In a tight semifinal match, Salhoff's 197 was good enough to oust Matt Payne (194) and Kyle Smith (167).

Top qualifier Eric Warren had run away from the field, nearly doubling #2 seed Smith's 8-game +/- score.  However, he got off to a slow start in the title match, which Salhoff's consistent bowling never allowed him to recover from.  In the end, Lindsay defeated Eric 196-154, good for the second title of her JBT SW career.
