LEISURE BOWL

champs Brandy Silva & Jeremy Baca

Brandy Silva defended her title, while Jeremy Baca added a second to his collection, in JBT SW action at Leisure Bowl.

The scratch division saw a tiny turnout bowl on a demanding Sport condition. Between brackets and our minimum scholarship guarantees, 8 of the 10 entrants received a scholarship, and $660 was awarded.  We challenge you to find a 10-person tournament that pays better, but even moreso, we challenge you to let more bowlers know about our events so we can improve the scratch turnout!

In the semifinal matches, the Medina brothers faced off for the first time ever in a JBT finals, with little brother Justin defeating big brother Jeremy 191-163.  In the other semifinal, Brandy Silva was able to easily defeat Justin DeDera 212-149.

Silva stayed calm and clean in the title match against Medina, proving for the second straight year that she can be very tough to beat when the conditions are challenging.  Brandy defeated Justin 191-169, good for the second title of her JBT SW career.

A solid turnout and high scores greeted the handicap division.  In round one of the finals, Janeyl Carper won her first stepladder match with a big 256 that defeated Jessica Gillette (231) and Taylor Cruz (178).  In round two, Annalicia Martinez took on both Carper siblings, and her 226 was enough to get by Janeyl (205) and Paul (197).  A tightly contested semifinal match saw Juan Romero strike out in the tenth for a 231 game, just enough to defeat Martinez (224), and an excellent effort by 8-year old Austin Mansfield (227).

Top qualifier Jeremy Baca had dominated the field in qualifying, and though he struggled in the semifinals, he still easily grabbed the top seed for the finals.  Baca was able to turn it back on for the title match, and six strikes in the first seven frames locked up a 236-209 victory, good for his first title of the season, and second overall.
