2025 JBT Las Vegas Main Event- handicap singles

champ Andrew Wang & runner-up Rylen Funasaki; stepladder finalists

Andrew Wang of Irvine, CA defeated Rylen Funasaki of Pearl City, HI, to win the handicap singles division of the 2025 JBT Las Vegas Main Event, contested at the beautiful South Point Bowling Plaza.

Defending champ Preston Nasu, somehow again landing in the #8 seed in a field of hundreds, began the unique bracket/stepladder finals with a win over Washington’s Marcus Castro, while in simultaneous action, Wang began a long climb with a win over Hawaii’s Treyton Okuda.  Nasu kept rolling in round two, getting by #4 Vincenzo Cruzate (who had come all the way from the 40th and final semifinal spot in an amazing run), while Wang squeezed by Nevadan Xander Robinson.  Moving on to the penultimate matches, top seed Funasaki finally stopped Nasu’s attempt to run it back, while Andrew remained unstoppable, getting past second seeded New Yorker Christopher Sim to set up the finale.

Wang and Funasaki put on an entertaining final game, with both bowlers grabbing the lead at points throughout.  After Funasaki finished strongly, Andrew needed a strike in the tenth to win it all.  Wang stepped up and calmly shredded the rack, getting the hit to win the Main Event and giant $5,200 top scholarship prize.  Rylen earned a $3,700 windfall for the runner-up performance.

Giant thanks to the team at South Point for their fantastic hosting job, all of our sponsors and vendors, especially title sponsors IAM Bowling and the Brands of Brunswick, and of course every family and bowler who attended.  Over $70,000 in scholarships were awarded to all ages and skill levels- come be a part of it at the 2026 Main Event, Dec 26-30, again at South Point, and JBT events year-round!
