CACTUS BOWL

champs Ben Canfield & Mathew Adragna

Ben Canfield and Mathew Adragna claimed JBT titles in exciting Arizona Conference action at Cactus Bowl in Tucson.

Kyle King, returning home from college and making a run at TPC eligibility, began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 225-188 win over Russ Oviatt.  King then outstruck Matthew Redmon in a thrilling 256-247 win.  The next match also came down to the tenth, as Danny Cobine got the double he needed in the tenth but not the fill ball he wanted, falling 213-211, and advancing King to the title match.

Top seed Ben Canfield continued to increase his points lead towards insurmountability with another solid performance here.  However, he struggled to find the look on the title match pair.  Fortunately for him, Kyle also started to get lost as well.  After Ben finished, King had a chance to double for the win, but couldn't get the first hit, and Canfield escaped with the 17th title of his JBT career with the 192-175 win.

Samantha Sellers opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a big 253-193 win over Ryanna Patterson.  In round two, Sellers got a very late messenger on her second ball in the tenth to fall, defeating Max Polhill 234-231.  Mathew Adragna then came on to defeat Sellers 226-197 to move on to the title match.

10 year-old top seed Aaron Coleman was looking to become the second child of a JBT champ to win a title (father David bowled on the east coast JBT as well as our Tour).  The exciting and well bowled match between him and fellow first time finalist Adragna came down to the very last shot, where Mathew got the 9-count he needed for a 241-240 win, and his first JBT title.

The Women's Series title match was even closer than that, as Alexis Atkin and Adel Wahner tied at 167.  After both striking on the first rolloff, Adel won the second one 10-9 to capture the day's title in exciting fashion.

Thanks as always to Dale, Sandra, and the crew at Cactus for always being one of our biggest supporters.  Want in on the fun?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
