SUNCOAST LANES

champs James Hawkins & Andrew Guba

James Hawkins two-handed his way to victory, while Andrew Guba reminded us that any age can indeed win a JBT event, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Suncoast.

Andrew Gottlieb was in the middle of the handicap semifinal field with only one game to go.  He picked a great time to then come alive, firing 278 scratch to leap into the #4 seed for the stepladder finals, where he beat Ian Hanuscin 214-162.  Andrew then rolled on, beating Joseph Bowman 214-196, and following with a 246-196 win over Jacob Scheer to reach the title match.

It was Andrew G. vs. Andrew G. in the final, as 7 year-old Andrew Guba hung tough in a tight semifinal round to earn the #1 seed.  Completely unintimidated by the environment, Guba was able to defeat Gottlieb 227-206 for the title, the first of his JBT career.  He becomes the 3rd youngest champion in JBT history with the exciting win.

Kaitlin Mayall opened up the scratch division stepladder finals by derailing red-hot Cameron Smith 236-143 in round one.  Mayall then beat all-conference points leader Kyle King 226-194.  Jordan Ferrer then stopped Mayall 237-191 to reach his first scratch division title match.

Top-seeded Hawkins has made a flurry of top-5 finishes recently, but had trouble winning those games. He erased that by qualifying first, and finished the deal with a 223-197 win over Ferrer, good for his 4th career JBT title and an important double-points win.

Thanks to everyone at Suncoast for hosting our event, which despite a small field, still awarded over $1,600 in scholarships to bowlers of all ages and averages.  Want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as easy as that!
