BOWLIUM - sponsored by Felix Chac Chuo Farm Inc.

champs Joey Chuo and Jeff Bonnett

Joey Chuo and Jeff Bonnett picked an excellent day to capture their first JBT titles, in exciting JBT So Cal Conference action at Bowlium, sponsored by Felix Chac Chuo Farm Inc.

A rematch from the previous day's title match produced the same close result, as Matt Cormack defeated Matt Herbert 210-207 to open the scratch division stepladder finals.  Cormack then escaped past James Hawkins 204-199.  Chuo then defeated Cormack 227-173 to advance to his first career title match.

Top seed Rebeca Reguero was leading an open field JBT event for the second time, and was looking to become the 8th female to win an open event, far and away the most in JBT history.  A challenging condition faced the bowlers all day, and Reguero was unable to maintain the momentum that carried her to the top seed, and Chuo took advantage with a confident game, resulting in a 217-186 win and the title. Combined with the added money from our sponsor, and the $100 bonus for throwing Ebonite equipment, Chuo cashed in for a $465 scholarship (and double points) for the big win.

Theron Jouett opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 220-216 squeaker over seemingly constant finalist Kirk Chui.  Kyle De Cew then defeated Jouett 218-144, and followed with a 226-159 win over Adam Dubia to reach his first title match since a Doubles event victory four seasons ago.

Top seed Jeff Bonnett grabbed the lead with a big game 8, but struggled early in the title match, while De Cew opened with 5 out of six strikes.  The match turned in that frame, though, as Bonnett converted a 2-10 spare and never opened again, while Kyle suddenly struggled to mark.  The end result was a 224-190 win and Jeff's first career JBT title.

Big thanks to Herbert and the whole crew at Bowlium for hosting our Tour for the first time.  Over $2,300 in scholarships were awarded to juniors of all ages and averages.  Want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
