        Costa Gastouniotis and Jacob McGough claimed their first career JBT singles titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Canyon Lanes at Morongo Casino.

        After three squads of qualifying, the top 16 survivors in each division engaged in match play on Super Bowl Sunday.  Down to four in the scratch division, Noel Hernandez defeated Chris Mayes, while Costa beat Michael Marmolejo, who earlier fired the event's only 300 game, to set up the finale.

        Hernandez has had some of his best JBT results at Canyon, and broke out of a recent slump with this performance.  After Costa finished at a brilliant 255, Noel needed a strike on his first ball in the tenth, but a ringing-7 denied his shot at his first win, instead giving Gastouniotis his first singles title and 2nd overall career JBT victory, and a big $500 scholarship payday!

        Handicap high seeds had better luck than in scratch, with #3 McGough stopping #11 Gage Baker in one semi, while #4 Lindsay Greim stopped her often-times doubles partner #16 Kendall Bollea's run to set up the title match.

        Greim lost the look she had in earlier games in the finale, while McGough kept up his weekend-long outstanding performance, earning his first JBT title of any type with the win over Lindsay.

        Our annual Super Bowl contests proved harder this year, with Leoj Chin's 31-17 Tampa final score prediction closest to the actual 31-9 butt-whooping (YYAAAAAYYYY!!!!), giving Leoj a free entry (while his brother Lathan won one of three Ebonite balls raffled off on the day)!

Date: Saturday & Sunday February 6 & 7, 2021.   This is ONE tournament that is two days long.  There are THREE qualifying squads, two on Saturday and one Sunday morning.  You may reserve up to two squads (either one Saturday and/or Sunday), with extra squads on a lottery basis.  You will know at the end of each squad if your score is good enough for the finals (squads are NOT combined in this event).  The finals are Sunday afternoon, with the goal to finish before Super Bowl kickoff. 

Start Time: Qualifying squads are Saturday at 9 am, Saturday at 1 pm, and Sunday at 9 am.  You may choose either of the Saturday squads, and/or the Sunday squad.  Saturday re-entries are on a lottery basis only.    .

Re-entries?:  Re-entries will be taken on-site if space is available to fill up the squads.  We'll keep you as updated as possible, but it's your call if the trip to Canyon is worth the risk if you're stuck on a wait list / re-entry list.

Reservations:  Please email director@bowljbt.com to reserve a spot.  You can prepay (not required) at the 'Prepaying' section of this website.  Reservations (paid or unpaid) must check in no later than 30 minutes before start time.  At that time, all bowlers will be taken on a first come, first serve basis until the field is full.

Format: Bowlers roll 5 games in any of the three qualifying squads.  The top 6 bowlers in each division Saturday at 9 am, top 5 at 1 pm, and top 5 Sunday at 9 am qualify for the finals Sunday at 12:30 PM.  In the finals, seeds 5-16 play each other in three-way, two game total pinfall matches, with the winners advancing to play the top 4 seeds in two game matches, and those winners playing in single game matches.  

Format Notes: 1) A bowler who qualifies MAY choose to decline their spot and re-bowl to attempt to improve their position (to try and get a bye, play more brackets, etc), but their declined score is completely voided and the next bowler down will qualify.  2) you can't 'go back in time' if you arrive early for a re-entry; whatever squad you bowl first, that is one of your two alloted spots, and any 'third' squad this creates would now be on a lottery basis. 3) Any bowler not present for the finals will result in a zero in that match, additional bowlers will not be called to fill the spot.    4) U17 and Girls matches will be done as soon as possible after the Sunday 9 am squad.  If one bowler cannot or chooses not to attend, the match is a forfeit.

Divisions:  Scratch or handicap.  It is the bowlers' choice of division.  Also, everyone age 16 or under as of 8/1/20 is automatically entered in the U-17 side event.   Also, every female is automatically entered in the Girls Scratch side event. 

Points:  This event counts for DOUBLE So Cal and All-Conference points.  Points qualify you for the big money season-ending Invitationals and Touring Players Championship, so get all you can.  Visit the 'statistics' section of the website to check on your points.

Entry fee: $40 handicap; $50 scratch.  Re-entries are $30 each.  Scholarship brackets are available for $2 each.  Raffle tickets for Ebonite bowling balls, and our PowerBowl and '25' jackpots, are available on-site. 

Covid details: JBT events follow- at least- all local Covid safety protocols, which you must be prepared for.  This will likely include but not be limited to wearing masks at all times, and maintaining 6 feet of social distancing from non-family members.  Please stay posted so you're not surprised about anything required of you.  A face covering will be required of all humans at all times in the center.  Morongo requires a MAX of one parent/guardian (not friend, etc) per bowler- zero is better if possible.  Nothing except your bowling equipment is allowed in the center- no food, beverages, water bottles, chairs, pet armadillos- anything. 

Scholarships: 1:6 in each division earn scholarships, scratch and handicap.  Minimum prizes in scratch are $250, $125, $75, $50.  In handicap, $200, $100, $60, $40.  Bowlers must finish in the top 4 once this season to qualify for that conference's Invitational, which features $1,000 for first place.  Bowlers who finish in the top 20 in a conference's points race, or the top 100 in all-conference points, qualify for the Touring Players Championship, featuring $2,000 for first.

Lane conditions: conditions vary from event to event, and are not posted prior to the event (unless otherwise announced).  Some events do not post the pattern until after qualifying.  Be ready for anything- it makes you a better bowler!  Check out previous patterns and corresponding cut scores at the 'lane conditions' section of this website.

Dress code: Anything goes EXCEPT tank tops, hats, gym shorts, clothing promoting alcohol, drugs, or firearms, or excessively ripped or short clothing, subject solely to the director's discretion.  However, bowlers wearing slacks or dress shorts/skirts, and a 'name shirt' or PBA-style 'dye-sub' shirt, JBT-logo shirts, or college or high school team shirt, earn an extra 10 points on their season-long points total.  If you're not sure about dress code, check with us.  If you're new to us, the vast majority of the bowlers do dress in the 'bonus' dress code, and those points become very important, so plan accordingly.
